As students begin mapping out schedules for next school year, Xello, a new course selection program, is helping guide decisions about classes, career pathways and graduation requirements. The program gives students tools to explore electives, advanced courses and future opportunities while working closely with counselors to create a plan for high school and beyond.
This program allows for students to be more purposeful and aware when they are selecting their courses. Violet Bane(10) said, “I like Xello more. It’s more organized, it’s a lot newer, and there is a lot more tech and more tools you can use and learn from.”
Other students find it to be more difficult to navigate the Xello dashboard.
Deemya Cunningham(11) said, “I don’t like this new program, but I like to look at my college courses.” Cunningham would rather go back to google forms to select her courses. Cunningham said, “it’s a lot more easier to do Google Forms than Xello. Xello is very complicated.”
Associate principal, Maria Bounthong said, “Xello is an awesome tool the helps students explore careers and plan their high school classes in a way that connects what there interested in with what they want to do after graduation.”
In Xello, paired with counselor guidance, students can view course descriptions, check prerequisites and build tentative schedules tailored to their interests and post-secondary plans.
As students finalize their selections, school staff hope the process will not only fill schedules but also help students feel more confident and purposeful about the paths they are creating—one course at a time.
