Did you watch the first “Wicked” movie? If you have, you are probably wondering if watching the second movie, “Wicked: For Good” is worth watching to finish the epic saga of the Broadway musical.
“Wicked” is a musical on Broadway about a prequel of the popular film “The Wizard Of Oz.” It is about the backstory of Glinda the Good Witch and The Wicked Witch of the West. The original film paints the two characters as enemies, while the broadway version dives into their past where they used to be friends and what changed.
The story eventually leads to Dorothy getting to Oz in the second act. Many people were big fans of the musical and were hoping for a movie adaption. Luckily in 2024, director John M. Chu made that happen, with stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Gillian Nothnagel (12) said, “’Wicked”is about the story of two people who are going to a magic school. One of them is very popular, and the other one is kind of an outcast. It’s a story about them finding friendship in each other and trying to save Oz.”
Gabriel Coletta (12) said, “I expect for good to have the biggest impact on me, because in that scene there is a lot of themes going on around it and surrounding it, like letting go, having to move on. That one is going to have a really emotional depth to it.”
Many people can tell they will have an emotional connection to “Wicked: For Good”, even though they have not seen the film yet. This is due to the deep connections made in the first movie. Many people had a very strong connection and felt they could relate a lot to many characters on a deeper level than they can explain.
“I do not think I can go without seeing the second movie just after hearing how much that they’ve added, and just the suspense of waiting so long for it to come out. Act II was always my favorite watching because that’s where it feels like the story really picked up for me.” said Kaileigh Mccallum (10).
Fans like Mccallum have been waiting since late 2024, being left on the cliffhanger of “Defying Gravity,” left on the edge of their seats, waiting to see what happens next in the story.
Nothnagel (12) said, “I plan on seeing the second movie because the first one was just so good, and I’m excited to see how they play out the rest of the story.” Even some fans like Nothnagel, have already seen the play and know how it ends, they are still excited to see which direction the second movie goes in.
Some may think “Wicked” is just a silly musical turned into a movie that is made for children, when in reality it is much more than that. The Second Act of Wicked is much more deep than Act I. Many people will not be expecting what will be to come in Act II.
Mccallum (10) said, “You can expect a very big plot twist; one very big one that goes against everything said in the first movie. Also you can kind of expect to see more background on how the Scarecrow, the Lion, and the Tin Man became themselves. You can just expect to see more of all the other characters.”
People should be expecting the unexpected when coming into this second film, as it builds the bridges and connections to not only “Wicked: Part One” but also its connections to “The Wizard of Oz.”
